Bruins F Ryder out up to 3 weeks (AP)

The Boston Bruins will be without forward Michael Ryder for up to three weeks as he recovers from surgery to repair a broken face bone. Ryder had surgery Monday on the orbital bone between his eyes. General manager Peter Chiarelli said Tuesday that Ryder had three small plates put in to repair three fractures.

Cavs G Williams finally named All-Star (AP)

Mo Williams will play in the All-Star game after all. Twice snubbed, the Cleveland Cavaliers point guard was chosen by NBA commissioner David Stern on Tuesday. Williams will replace Toronto Raptors forward Chris Bosh, who will miss the game because of a sprained right knee. BU adds another Beanpot title (AP)

Even playing short-handed during a key third-period stretch wasn’t going to stop Boston University from winning another Beanpot. Jason Lawrence scored the go-ahead goal for the second straight week, and BU sealed it with two late short-handed goals as the Terriers beat Northeastern 5-2 in the tournament’s 57th annual event Monday.

Sixers’ Brand needs 6 months to recover (AP)

Philadelphia 76ers forward Elton Brand will need six months of recovery on his surgically repaired right shoulder and should be ready for the start of the 2009-10 season. “He’s got a 95 percent chance of returning as good as he is or was before,” said Brand’s surgeon, Dr. Craig Morgan. Morgan repaired the torn labrum in Brand’s right shoulder on Monday.
